Rules Clarification for the Camelot Edition
Primas - 30/5/2024 at 02:40

In the Camelot edition, if a player takes a trick with the Holy Grail and the Excalibur it is void. If that player then makes their bid, can they score the extra 20 points for the Holy Grail? Some have argued that you still get the extra 20 points when you make your bid even though the trick is null and void. What is the ruling on this situation?

Interesting Camelot question! It hinges on whether "making your bid" is separate from the trick itself. It seems unfair to reward points for a voided trick. This reminds me of the horror game Granny; you follow the rules, you escape, you win. But if you break the rules, Granny gets you! Similarly, voided Grail trick, no bonus points, in my opinion. What do others think?

That's a tricky Camelot rules question! My gut feeling is that no, you shouldn't get the extra 20 points for the Holy Grail in that situation. Since the trick is void, it's like it never happened. It's similar to thinking about the perfect drift in something like Drift Hunters - if you spin out, the perfect drift doesn't count! I think the intention of the rule is that you have to successfully take the Grail to get the points. I'd be interested to hear what the official rulebook says!

This is a really interesting and specific ruling question for the Camelot edition! I can see why there's debate – the "void" aspect throws a wrench into the usual scoring. My initial thought is that if the trick is void, it's as if it never happened for scoring purposes, including the Holy Grail bonus. It reminds me a bit of how some games might have a "do-over" or a "mulligan" for certain actions, essentially resetting the board. I'd love to hear how other players rule this, especially those who play a lot of Camelot or even games like Slope Unblocked where precise rule interpretations can be key to strategy.
