The “Spirit” of “Wizard”
“Spirit” prevailed to take top honors in the “World Wizard Tournament” held in Toronto on July 10. “Spirit” is the online username of Terry Blocker who flew in from Manitoba to attend the gala event. She later said, “To be honest, winning was never a thought in my mind. Making the ‘Final Six’ was my goal”. The win raises her ‘World Wizard Ranking’ to No.6. Although “Spirit” walked away with the top prize of $500, master points and a trophy, the day was punctuated with numerous other awards. “Team USA” from Boston, Massachusetts won for “driving the farthest distance". The youngest player at age 14 and the eldest at 83 were among the many other prize recipients. “Team USA”, whose best showing was 5th place remains undaunted. “Ms. Wizard” reports, “Plan on ‘Team USA’ for 2005 regardless of location –we’re in! And this time, America takes home the gold!”
